For over a decade, the institution of marriage, the very bedrock on which civilized society rests, has been under attack by radical activists who want to redefine its very meaning. Now, for the first time since its passage, the federal Defense of Marriage Act, (DOMA) is being directly threatened. And probably more threateningly, a federal lawsuit in California is challenging the validity of Proposition 8- a measure passed by voters defining marriage between one man and one woman- on core Constitutional grounds. All observers believe this case is headed for the Supreme Court, where 5 justices could create a "constitutional right for homosexual marriage," which will put into question what marriage means for every American across the nation.

It is time for the people to stand up and make it clear that they will not let marriage be redefined. Now, more than ever, is the time to rally behind marriage and let our voices be heard. Pennsylvania For Marriage joins The National Organization for Marriage in their month-long, nationwide Summer for Marriage Tour 2010: One Man One Woman. The tour is criss-crossing the east coast, mid-west and southern states in hosting 20 rallies to encourage supporters to stand up for marriage.

Pennsylvania is a key battleground in this critical debate. Please come join us at the Capitol steps in Harrisburg to show your support for protecting marriage in Pennsylvania.

Primary Voter's Guide: Are You Voting For Pro-Marriage Candidates? Find out here.

The latest polling in Pennsylvania indicates a vast majority of citizens believe they should have the opportunity to vote on a marriage protection amendment. Eight State Senators voted to deny us that opportunity.

All 5 democrats and 3 republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee halted the advancement SB 707, the Pennsylvania Marriage Protection Amendment

Here is a list of the eight Senators who voted to kill SB 707:

Sen. Lisa Boscola: District 18 (Lehigh, Monroe, Northampton Counties) Bethlehem: 610-868-8667
Sen. Patrick Browne: District 16 (Lehigh, Monroe, Northampton) Allentown: 610-821-8468
Sen. Jay Costa: District 43 (Pittsburgh) 412-241-6690
Sen. Jane Earll: District 49 (Erie) 814-453-2515
Sen. Wayne Fontana: District 42 (Pittsburgh) 412-344-2551
Sen. Daylin Leach: District 17 (Delaware, Montgomery) 610-768-4200

Sen. Mary Jo White: Dist. 21 (Butler, Clarion, Erie, Forest, Venango, Warren) (814) 432-4345

Please call these Senators. Let them know of your discouragement for their lack of supporting the fundamental building block of society and leaving the opportunity of same-sex "marriage" becoming legalized here in our state.

The following Senators voted in favor of SB 707:

Sen. Stewart Greenleaf: Dist 12 (Montgomery, Bucks) 215-657-7700
Sen. John Gordner: Dist 27- (Columbia, Luzerne, Dauphin, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder) 570-784-3464
Sen. Jane Clare Orie: District 40 (Pittsburgh North Suburbs) 412-630-9466
Sen. Jeffrey Piccola: District 15 (Harrisburg area) 717-787-6801
Sen. John Rafferty: Dist 44 (Montgomery, Berks, Chester) 610-831-8830
Sen. Joseph Scarnati: Dist 25 (Cameron, Clearfield, Elk, Jefferson, McKean, Potter, Warren) 814-726-7201

Please thank these 6 Senators for their support of marriage.

Unless this committee is to change its positions on this issue, the advancement of a marriage amendment likely will be delayed until next year.

Therefore, we need to engage our elected officals in seeing a Constitutional amendment pass in Pennsylvania. Make sure the 2010 elections makes your voice heard on the importance of protecting marriage. Visit www.PAFamilyVoter.com to see what your candidates say about their support of a marriage amendment.

Traditional Marriage Supports Targeted in Pennsylvania

What Can I Do?

Efforts to protect marriage in Pennsylvania are facing significant foes from outside our state. As has been a pattern in other states that have promoted Marriage Protection Amendments, radical supporters of "same-sex marriage" from across the country target legislators and organizations that support marriage as the union of husband and wife.

Here in Pennsylvania, there is evidence of significant resources being poured into Pennsylvania from outside our state to challenge any who would try to protect marriage through a constitutional amendment. Specifically, groups connected nationally to radical wealthy individuals target legislators, like Sen. John Eichelberger, who help lead the fight to protect marriage. One group in particular has begun running radio ads attacking Sen. Eichelberger within his own district. It is clear that money from activists in Colorado and elsewhere is being used to target Sen. Eichelberger and other Pennsylvania lawmakers who stand for truth.

A large majority of Pennsylvanians support a constitutional amendment to keep marriage the union of husband and wife. Pennsylvania for Marriage supports bringing this issue to a vote. Please let your legislator know you support the Marriage Protection Amendment, and ask them to support it. And please send Sen. John Eichelberger, lead sponsor of the Pennsylvania Marriage Protection Amendment a note of thanks and encouragement. You can email him at john@standwitheichelberger.com
